The instruments used for this study were the Burden Scale(Suh Mi-Hea & Oh Ga-Sil 1998), and coping behavior scale revised by Han Jung-suk & Oh Ga-Sil based on that of Lazarus & Folkman(1984). Data were analyzed with t-test, ANOVA and Pearson¡¯ s correlation through SPSS.

Result:The highest score of burden was economic burden(3.24) and the lowest score was emotions burden(2.11). The highest score of coping behaviors was crux of the solution of the problem(2.97) and the lowest score was the indifference(2.34). The levels of burden according to the general characteristics of subjects were significantly different with age(F=8.89, p=0.000l), educational level(F=3.87, p=0.0116), relationship of patients(F=4.57, p=0.0009), a duration of disease(F=5.5 1, p=0.0015), frequency in family or kinsfolk visited(F=4.32, p=0.0066), taking turns of patients care(t=5.09, p=0.0262) and patient-family member relationship before the attack of disease(F=2.61, p=0.0400). The levels of coping behaviors according to the general characteristics of subjects were significantly different with having a religion(F=5.15, p=0.0253), frequency of family or kinsfolk visited(F=4.56, p=0.0050) and patient-family member relationship before the attack of disease(F=2.77, p=0.03 16).
